Chemical Hoses

Industrial chemical hoses are designed for the safe transfer of aggressive liquids – acids, alkalis, solvents, and industrial chemicals – in the chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical industries as well as in agriculture. The range includes hoses for pumping and distributing chemicals, along with specialized hoses for applications with higher demands on chemical resistance and operational safety.

Chemical hoses are manufactured from rubber or thermoplastic materials with an inner layer tailored to the specific medium being conveyed – most commonly EPDM, UHMWPE, FEP, or PVC – with spiral or braided reinforcement providing mechanical strength. The choice of inner layer material is critical and depends on chemical compatibility with the specific substance, working pressure, temperature range, and antistatic requirements.

The Complete Continental Industrial Hose Range

Continental hoses – multiple product lines together

The Continental industrial hose portfolio comprises three independent product lines. Two of them focus primarily on rubber hoses and are geographically referred to as EMEA and AMERICAS. The third pillar is the thermoplastic hose range, formerly known under the Merlett brand.

The full current range, including detailed product descriptions and individual data sheets, is available through the online hose finders:

We supply products from all three product lines listed above.

Typical Applications

Chemical hoses are used in industries where the transfer of aggressive substances involves strict requirements for chemical resistance, leak-tightness, and safety – and where standard industrial hoses would fail.

In the chemical and petrochemical industries, they are used for pumping acids, alkalis, and industrial solvents between vessels, tank trucks, and process nodes. In agriculture, they are used for distributing and applying pesticides, herbicides, and liquid fertilizers, where resistance to aggressive agrochemicals is essential. In the pharmaceutical industry and laboratories, hoses with certified inner layer materials are used where there is no risk of contaminating the conveyed substance. In potentially explosive atmospheres, antistatic versions prevent the buildup of electrostatic charge during flow.
