Variable Speed Taper Lock Pulleys with a Fixed Speed Setting
Variable speed pulleys with a fixed speed setting are the simplest type of pulley with the possibility of changing the speed. It is used to fix the speed using a V-belt. It is made of gray cast iron.
These are a special type of V-belt pulleys that consist of a fixed and a movable rotating part. They thus enable adjusting the position of the wedge groove, thus pulley distance and belt position. The result is a gear, where the gear ratio can be set and fixed at rest, and thus also the speed of the output shaft.
The drive pulley width control is mechanical. It is performed using a thread on the movable part of the pulley. After setting the necessary diameter, the position is fixed and secured with a locking screw.
The pulleys are attached to the shafts by Taper Lock bushings, thanks to which they are not only fixed on the shaft with a keyway, but also axially secured against displacement.

Typical Applications
Variable speed pulleys with fixed speed settings are designed for simple applications in various industries. This is an undemanding drive solution where frequent and smooth speed changes are not required.
It is typically used in the repair of old agricultural machinery or conveyors in the ceramic and woodworking industries. Nowadays, they are very often replaced by another solution for setting the required revolutions.
