ESCOGEAR S Series Couplings
ESCOGEAR S are spindle gear couplings from ESCO for transmitting high torques at angular misalignments of up to 3°.
Each coupling is custom-engineered to meet the specific operating conditions of the application – from gear geometry and heat treatment to the shaft connection type.
Shaft Coupling Description
ESCOGEAR S series spindle gear couplings are torsionally rigid, double-engagement couplings. They consist of two sleeves with internal straight teeth mounted on the input and output shafts, two hubs with external crowned or MULTICROWN teeth, and a floating shaft connected to both hubs.
Both engagement zones are protected by a specialized sealing system that prevents lubricant leakage and protects the gearing against contamination.
Relubrication with grease or oil is straightforward and supports extended service intervals.

ESCOGEAR S spindle gear couplings are designed for the steel industry.
Typical applications include rolling mill drives – for hot and cold rolling, continuous casting installations, straightening presses, and rotary furnaces, as well as Steckel mills, plate mills, and long product rolling mills (bar, wire, billet, sections, and tubes).
Materials
Spindle coupling components are manufactured from high-strength alloy steel with carefully selected heat treatment tailored to the stress levels and required service life.
The optimal heat treatment of the coupling gear teeth ensures the right balance between core hardness and case depth. Nitriding is the standard surface hardening process applied to the gear teeth.
