ESCOGEAR C Series Couplings
ESCOGEAR C are all-steel, torsionally rigid gear couplings from ESCO in a compact design with a continuous one-piece sleeve, enabling high torque transmission within a minimal installation envelope.
The C-M variant with MULTICROWN tooth profile transmits full nominal torque capacity at misalignment up to 2 × 0.75° – with no need for oversizing.
Shaft Coupling Description
ESCOGEAR C series are torsionally rigid, double-engagement gear couplings. They consist of two hubs with external crowned teeth and a continuous sleeve with internal straight teeth – each hub forms a separate engagement with the sleeve.
The C-M variant features hubs with the patented MULTICROWN tooth geometry, which maintains minimal backlash and ensures smooth operation across the full range of speeds, torques, and misalignment up to 2 × 0.75°. Axial displacement capacity is determined by the length of the sleeve's internal toothing – extended length is available on request for the C-M variant.
Both ends of the sleeve are sealed with special patented seals – the removable seal holders simplify installation and disassembly.
The couplings are designed for horizontal and vertical applications. For C-M variant types with off-center toothing, the hubs can be reversed during assembly. This provides two different tooth positions relative to the shaft end, facilitating length adjustment without the need for non-standard components.
ESCOGEAR C series couplings are significantly lighter than ESCOGEAR F series couplings. The continuous one-piece sleeve also results in a substantially smaller outer diameter compared to other coupling types at equivalent torque ratings – 17% smaller than a flanged gear coupling, 30% smaller than a disc coupling, and up to 52% smaller than an elastomeric coupling.
Grease relubrication is straightforward and supports extended service intervals.
On request, the couplings can be supplied with special options (e.g. set screws, VITON o-rings). For use in explosive atmospheres, an ATEX-certified version is available.
Shaft Coupling Construction
- Continuous sleeve with internal straight teeth
- Left hub with external crowned teeth (C-M variant: MULTICROWN)
- Right hub with external crowned teeth (C-M variant: MULTICROWN)
- Patented sleeve seals with removable seal holders (o-rings)
Typical Applications
ESCOGEAR C series shaft couplings are designed for the transmission of high torques across a wide range of industries.
Typical applications include conveyor drives, rolling mills, mixers, cranes, and other demanding drive systems in steel mills and the paper, chemical, and rubber industries.
The modular design provides maximum flexibility for assembling a wide variety of configurations.
Materials
Gear couplings are generally manufactured from C45 carbon steel (AISI 1040).
For higher torque ratings within the same coupling size, 42CrMo4 quenched and tempered alloy steel can be specified on request. For extremely demanding operating conditions and further improvement in fatigue strength, tooth nitriding is available as a custom option.
