Timing Pulley Flanges

The flanges are components for the production of timing pulleys. These are steel rings designed to secure the side guide of the timing belt. Their upper edge is molded with a slope to ensure the belt starts up. It is produced in different sizes to match the sizes of timing pulleys of different profiles and in different thicknesses of uncoated or galvanized steel. They can also be blackened to order.

On the pulley, it is necessary to make a fitting with a small overlap for mounting the flange and then press it apart. This secures the flange and prevents it from loosening.

In order to prevent the belt from "falling" off the pulley, the design and construction of the transmission is based on the principle that at least one flange must be on each side of the belt.

Flanges Fields of Use

Timing pulley flanges are designed for the production of timing pulleys of any shape. They are used in cases where a standardly manufactured timing pulley cannot be used and it is necessary to make the pulley from a rod and provide it with one or two flanges.

As well as the timing pulleys, they are used in machine toolspackaging machines, printers, single-purpose machines, in the foodpaper and glass industries and in many other industries.

Flanges Mounting

Mounting Method Description Illustration

Edge Rolling

The flange is machined or pressed from sheet metal. It has a moulded tilt. It is fixed by rolling an edge on the front of the timing pulley, alternatively it can be pressed in several places (it then fulfils the same function).

The most common method of mounting standard catalogue pulleys. The same applies to non-standard pulleys unless otherwise specified.

Fixing with Screws

The flange is machined with a bevel on the outer diameter for the belt run-up. It is fastened with countersunk head screws.

A mounting method for very demanding applications where there is a risk of the flange falling off. In these cases it is recommended to secure the pressed flanges with extra bolts or to prepare them as fully bolt secured.

Fastening by Welding

The flange is machined with a rounding on the outer diameter for proper belt run-up. It is fixed by spot welding.
